On January 28, 2025, in a beautiful, redecorated building of Polish Theatre in Szczecin, took place a summary gala of the Regional Operational Programme for the West Pomeranian Voivodeship for the years 2014-2020. A distinction for "Best Research Project (University Project)" was given to the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering of ZUT for the project titled: Testing innovative protective masks (NanoBioCell) made of bionanocellulose in real life conditions managed by prof. Miroslawa El Fray.
The project has been financed within "Odpowiedzialny Społecznie Proto_Lab" ("Socially Responsible Proto_Lab") initiative and realized with cooperation of two units of our university: Department of Polymers and Biomaterials Engineering managed by prof. Miroslawa El Fray and Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology in the Faculty of Biotechnology and Animal Husbandry managed by prof. Karol Fijałkowski.
It is combining knowledge and passion of scientists of two different fields and disciplines that first, contributed to developing biodegradable, antibacterial and antivirus filters based on bionanocellulose and designed for application in protective masks, and then helped to carry on testing of masks, including these filters and being completely biodegradable, by medical staff of two hospitals in Szczecin.
As the Marshal's Office authorities emphasized, the distinctions handed out to the beneficiaries of the Regional Operational Programme for the West Pomeranian Voivodship for the years 2014-2020 were to express the gratitude for their engagement, activity and positive attitude for development.
