ZUT scientists will create customised components for their colleagues at PUM and will use a laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art microscopes. The Apium M220 device is the only one of its kind in Poland. It is located at ZUT's Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics.
Made of medical-grade materials, the printer has an integrated filter system that traps contaminants. A stream of hot air inside it, prevents bacteria from settling on the printed object.
The device prints parts made of polymers. This is an alternative to titanium parts, which can replace human bones. Printed parts will have applications in orthopaedics, maxillofacial and dental surgery.
The printer cost £360,000.
