Innovation comes out of the shadows. Scientists from Szczecin at the 9th Forum for Intelligent Development 10.07.2024 07:42

Scientists and authorities from Polish universities, entrepreneurs and investors, representatives of government and local administration - almost 200 people met on the 34th floor of the Olivia Star office building in Gdańsk Oliwa on 20 June 2024 to promote sustainable development and innovative solutions for the future of technology and the economy. This is another edition of the FIR with the participation of scientists from ZUT.

The Dean of WTiICh, Prof. Rafał Rakoczy, who was invited to participate in the panel "Leaders of intelligent development respond to the needs of society", spoke about the role of the university in creating innovation. Prof Rakoczy was also awarded the prestigious 'Leader of Intelligent Development' award for his extensive research and development activities in the field of chemical technology and engineering, including the management of numerous scientific projects and the authorship of dozens of patents.

Two other ZUT scientists were also honoured with 'Scientist of the Future' statuettes. Paweł Sikora, PhD, Professor ZUT, from the Department of Construction and Communication Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, was recognised for his research into the use of modern technologies in construction, including nanotechnology and 3D printing. The award recognises the winner's global innovation activities, reflected in his inclusion twice in the 'World's TOP 2% Scientists' in 2022 and 2023, and the actions taken to promote the innovative solutions being developed. Prof. Sikora is leading a Horizon 2020 research project entitled Recycled Aggregates for Concrete Structures Made using 3D Printing Technology (Recycl3D). Dr Antosik is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Organic Chemical Technology and Polymer Materials at the Faculty of Technology and Chemical Engineering at ZUT; he led a project implemented under the NCBR's LIDER programme.

The aim of the FIR is to promote scientific research, technological and social innovations, development projects, industrial research, and valuable local government initiatives - as well as their authors - innovators from different economic and scientific fields - people who are inspiring and looking for opportunities to develop their own activities, also in inter-industrial, non-research cooperation. The meeting of FIR participants is also an important networking event which, with the active support of the administration, creates optimal conditions for cooperation between science and business.

The coverage of the 9th FIR is available on YouTube, and the next 10th anniversary Intelligent Development Forum will take place on 21-22 November 2024 in Uniejów.
