Anna Mierzyńska and Andrzej Chuchra – Architecture and Interior Design students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture ZUT were qualified to the finals in the student competition for the design of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Inspireli Awards competition is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Department of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, received 281 projects from all over the world, 25 were qualified for the finals. The project was created as part of the course on "Architectural Design of Public Utilities Architecture" conducted at the Department of Contemporary Architecture, Theory and Methodology of Design by PhD., Eng. The inspiration for creation of the project is the leaf of the small leaved lime tree, symbol of the Czech Republic. Outline of the leaf has been transformed into forms of ceramic shapes, from which the characteristic openwork shutters were designed. The whole design is in a laterite inspired colour, a local sedimentary rock that is characteristic of regions with a humid and hot climate.
